Santa Tecla BC tabs Leidis Oquendo, ex Camaguey

Leidys Oquendo

Santa Tecla BC (Liga Mayor) inked experienced 35-year old Cuban international forward Leidis Oquendo (180-82, agency: Pro Sports). She played in the summer at Camaguey in Cuban Liga Superior. In 11 games she was the best scorer with impressive 20.6ppg and recorded 6.6rpg (#2 in the league), 1.3apg and 1.4spg. Oquendo helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very good season in her career as she was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Cuban Liga Superior Forward of the Year and selected to 1st Team.
She also represented Cuba at the Olympic Games Additional Qualifying Round in Nantes (France) last year. Her stats at that event were 4 games: 9.0ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.3apg, FGP: 44.4%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 75.0%.
Oquendo has played previously professionally also in Argentina (Atletico Talleres RPB).
She is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in her extensive career, which she may end at Santa Tecla BC.
